Rob and Mary Goodman

Rob Goodman with his wife, Mary, are the contact persons for those needing more information about the Veterans' Pilgrimage. They are available for speaking engagemens.

Deacon Rob and Mary Goodman married in 1969, just two weeks after his return from one year of combat duty with the 25th Infantry in Vietnam. They have four children and four grandchildren and are both now retired from their careers. Mary primarily served in various management positions in the non profit sector in Milwaukee WI, where they have lived since 1979. This included being Director of the Renewal Office for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for eight years.

Awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts, Rob has a 50% disability rating from the VA for PTSD and other wounds. He returned from military service to finish his education majoring in Theater and ending with an MFA degree in Directing from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee in 1990. While at St. Francis Seminary in 1987 he founded First Stage Children’s Theater, today one of the top five professional theater’s for young audiences and families in the nation. Rob’s ministry includes an active parish Veteran’s Ministry, volunteering in Hospice Care at the VA hospital in Milwaukee, major mission work in war ravaged Northern Uganda, and regular deacon activities: preaching, marriages, funerals, hospital visits, and faith formation.

“The gift of faith given by God and the Lord’s guidance has led us to much personal healing and grace through our past ministry.” They said, “We look forward to working with the team at Franciscan Pilgrimages to help other veterans find healing of their moral injury from military service and a renewal of their faith through the pilgrimage for veterans.”
