Sr. Marie Grogan was born in the Paisley, Scotland and lived there until she entered the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM) in England in1968. After her initial religious training, she entered the field of Nursing, Midwifery and Administration and served in rural Zambia, Ireland and England for the next 29 years. While in Ireland, Sr. Marie also trained in Spiritual Direction and has accompanied people ever since, wherever she has been.
Sr. Marie was called to serve on her Congregational Leadership Team for two 6-year terms with a gap of six years in between the two terms. During the gap, she studied for an MA in Ministry and Spirituality at Regis College, Toronto, Canada, and then served back in Scotland with a Franciscan Charity working for people with blood-borne viruses. She also became part of the team at the Ignatian Spirituality Centre in Glasgow, offering Spiritual Direction and Retreats.
Since 2013, Sr. Marie has been back at the FMDM Motherhouse in Godalming, England, serving as Director of their Retreat Centre for four years as well as serving in leadership of the two Motherhouse communities on campus until July 2021. Their Retreat Centre has since morphed into a newly renovated Franciscan Centre, where she continues to offer Spiritual direction and Retreats. She also shares Franciscan Spirituality with FMDM’s Temporary Professed Sisters, which includes leading them in Pilgrimage in past years.
In December of 2021, Sr. Marie Grogan joined Franciscan Pilgrimage Programs. She is delighted in sharing the spirituality of Francis and Clare as well as her own Franciscan Life and experiences with all the Pilgrims she meets.
