Fr. Russell was born in Brooklyn, New York and joined the Conventual Franciscan Friars in 1978. He professed his Solemn vows in 1984 prior to beginning his theological studies in Rome, Italy. Russell was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1988. While working in the inner city in Brooklyn, Russell returned to school at Fordham University and received a MSW degree. He is a licensed psychotherapist in New York and Pennsylvania. Since then he has served in various ministries. He has worked parishes, novitiate and pre-novitiate formation, clinics offering psychotherapy and served for nine years as Pastor at Most Holy Trinity Parish, Brooklyn, New York.
Russell enjoys languages (English, Spanish and Italian), music, sports and ministering with the Franciscan Pilgrimage Programs. Knowing that pilgrims are deepening their interior life and relationship with God is one of the joys which he experiences as he journeys with pilgrims. He has worked in Franciscan Formation for many years and is presently the Vocation Director of the Our Lady of the Angels Province.
He established and headed the east coast Franciscan Pilgrimage office which was Brooklyn.
