Being a part of a Franciscan college or university is an exciting experience. To be connected to a school that values the Franciscan charism is a challenge, both personally and as a part of the educational institution. St. Francis valued the person and his/her relation with God as pivotal. He also considered the person a unique creation in the world and someone who has meaning in whatever position of life s/he is in. Francis also valued the gift of education when it helped the person better understand his/her relationship to creation, to one another and to the Creator.
In an effort to support you in your ministry at your Franciscan school, we invite you to participate in a pilgrimage to Italy to visit places in Rome and Assisi where Francis lived. When you return from your pilgrimage you will have had a more personal experience of Franciscan life and will be able to share that with others, whether they be students, alumni or staff.
Details Overseas flight to Rome. ASSISI [6 Days] You will be introduced to Assisi, the city of SS. Francis and Clare. You will see the sanctuaries of Chiesa Nuova, Francis’ paternal home; San Damiano, site of the rebuilding mission given to Francis; the Porziuncola, the heart of the Franciscan movement; La Verna, where Francis received the stigmata; and the Basilicas of St. Francis and St. Clare. GRECCIO [Rieti Valley] Enroute to Rome you will visit the sanctuary where St. Francis revitalized the crèche. ROME [3 Days] You will see St. John Lateran, (the baptistry of the Franciscan Order and the Vatican of Francis’ day), and St. Peter’s Basilica. A bus tour will take you to significant Roman sites.
