Pilgrimage to Ireland
Did you know that the Franciscans came to Ireland in the early 1200s? Some of these friars knew Francis and Clare. The Franciscan presence has been a part of Irish culture and spirituality. Features of Celtic Christianity are very similar to Franciscan spirituality: Love of nature; Love for art and poetry; Love and respect for stories and higher learning; Sense of God and the saints as a continuing personal helpful presence; Love and respect for Mary, the Incarnation of Christ, and Liturgy; A sense of closeness and immanence between the natural and supernatural and a mandate for hospitality.
Some of the places to be experienced: Trinity College and the Book of Kells in Dublin, Glendalough as a Irish center founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century; prayer at Knock (shrine to Mary), Muchross Friary in Killarney, climb the Croagh Patrick, visit Multyfarnham Friary (one of the most beautiful churches in the country), spend a day on Clare Island as a day of hermitage and more.
Join us as we travel through the land of Saints and Scholars to enjoy the holy shrines, cultural centers and the sights of the Irish landscapes and enjoy Irish hospitality. This will be a 12 day pilgrimage. For more information call 414.427.0570.
